The most representative types of Mileiki cuisine are the “pitarakia” filled with peppery dry cheese or myzithra with mint, the fragrant “watermelon pie” a traditional sweet watermelon pie and of course the “sweet coufeto” made from sweet pumpkin crumbs with honey and almonds.
The sweet buffet is traditionally served at weddings and engagements by the mother of the bride. The honey symbolizes the sweet life that the couple will live, while the almonds the fruits of fertility.
In the island’s numerous restaurants, taverns, steakhouses and wineries, you have plenty of options. You can taste from fresh fish to international cuisine. We highly recommend you to try the delicious lobster pasta, grilled or wine octopus, fresh fish, “ladenia” (delicious pie with oil, tomato and onion), as well as local meat dishes, such as braised or wine-roasted rooster, baked lamb with pelle and more many.
