Agios Georgios

Agios Georgios is the central church of the village of Pera Triovasalos. If you visit it, it is worth noting the marble slab that dominates the entrance of the church and depicts St. George on horseback, its marble iconostasis and the mosaic of the popular artist Petros Rapanakis located in its courtyard.
If you visit St. George or St. Spyridon on Easter day, you will watch the “burning of Judas”, a custom that dates back to early Christian times and is still alive today. This custom is combined with the custom of “gunpowder”, where the young people of the two villages, Triovasalos and Pera Triovasalos, throw dynamite in a space between the two churches, each claiming the title of winner. The winner is the village that will cause the most noise and pop the most dynamite.
