The catacombs are located near the village of Tripiti, in caves 150 meters above sea level.
In 2009, the Holy Synod declared Milos as a sacred island, since Catacombs are the oldest monument to Christianity.
It was the first gathering place for the first Christians and the first community cemetery in second A.D. century.
Catacombs are unique in size throughout Greece and one of the most renowned Christian monuments in the world. This majestic complex consists of three large underground arcades carved in porous volcanic rock, five corridors, and a rectangular funeral chamber in the shape of Rome’s Catacombs cubicula.
